Happy Friday!

It's been a pretty good week!
I am just not going to think about all the headaches!
My students have been amazing this week.
I am not sure if it's me feeling better and not sick,
or if the three day weekend helped.
My students are mastering the objectives with flying colors
and no one left the school with the color red!
Red= phone call home because of misbehavior.
This is great news for me!
I am not a fan of having to call parents and tell them their child had a bad day.
I rather call for great news!
Today is officially the midpoint of third quarter.
This school year is going by super fast!
I love that summer is around the corner but I hate that my students are will be off to 2nd grade next year.
This week I also had a debrief with my principal about my impact observation and it went awesome! I got very good scores!
Impact is a rubric that is used to score teachers in DC.
very good scores = bonus
I would love a bonus but not sure if that is possible year.
Impact can be very stressful!
Today we also had pretty good news about our school (Stanton) in the Washington Post.
Check it out here !
Now it's time to enjoy the weekend with my husband!
Happy Friday!

Happy Mardi Gras!!!!

Happy Mardi Gras!
Boy do I miss New Orleans today.
It's crazy to think that the whole city closes down for all the festivities.
A few weeks ago the carnival season began, which means parades started happening.
You can be 60 miles west of New Orleans in Baton Rouge and you can still celebrate.
I just remember walking to the street the parade came down for the first time.
Not knowing what to expect.
There were hundreds of people just siting/standing around drinking and waiting.
I was like " Wow, she has a beer in her hand and the Police officers don't care!"
Louisiana is it's own world!
As I waited for the parade to start, I was filled with excitement to see what the fuss was about.
I also saw these crazy inventions of ladders with chairs on top of it.
They were for kids to sit on and catch beads.

The first float passed by and I stood there watching people say,
"Throw me something mister!"
Then beads, teddy bears, cups, and other souvenirs just came flying their way.
So then I started yelling,
"Hey throw me something mister!"
Beads came flying my way.
It was so much fun!
You just need to make sure you have your eyes peeled open or else beads just hit you on the face.
I swear I feel like the people on the float look for people who aren't paying attention to hit them with beads.

You can eat and drink with friends and just sit back and hang out.
The closer it is to fat Tuesday the better the parades!
If you were lucky you got to go to a Mardi Gras ball.
I had a chance to go to one in 2008.

I got to get dressed up in a ball gown and Hector was in a tux.
We went to the New Orleans convention center and partied before the parade came inside.
Yes you read correctly... INSIDE the convention center.
Prior to the parade coming in we watched the super bowl and watched the Giants win the title.
Hulk Hogan was the King of the parade.
We got to dance to a live band and drink with our friends.
It was a great time!
I still can't believe that it's been almost 4 years since I left Louisiana.
I miss it very much.
I miss all my friends and of course the amazing FOOD!!
I can't wait to go back during Mardi Gras!

Happy Tuesday

I cannot believe third quarter has begun.
This school year is going super fast.
Part of me loves it and the other hates it because I love this group of kids.
They are super smart and hardworking.
Last month of teaching was intense.
Quarter 2 was ending= INTERIM TESTING!
I do love the results but man testing students can be draining for both the children and I!
I had APTT- Academic Parent Teacher Team Meetings.
I love them but they take a lot of work and effort.
This is something our school does that takes place in part of Parent teacher conferences.
All parents come to a meeting and they get to see how their child is doing compared to other students.
They also get to learn activities that will help their students achieve their goals.
I just needed 70% of my parents to attend and then I could have the day off this past Monday.
I DID IT! I got to stay at home yesterday!
Hence the reason I baked so much this weekend!
Last week was stressful too.
I had to run two PD's.
One for being a teacher lead ( all about data tracking) and one for Math.
It's great running these things but it's also more work on top of the work I already do at the school.
Today was a pretty solid day. The students were on task and focus.
Two kids were absent which helped the day go smoother.
I also got impacted today. Luckily I had a feeling I would be impacted so my lesson was ready!
Not that my lessons are not ready!
I am 95% always ready but I double checked everything for math during my lunch break.
If you didn't know this already... I LOVE TEACHING MATH!
Math is my thing. Not only do I love it... My students love it!
If I could teach math all day every day... I would be one happy person!
Maybe one day I will be a math specialist... or I will get the pleasure of teaching upper grade math. ( If it's departmental)
Overall my Tuesday was a Happy Tuesday!

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
