Sam's Bakery

I decided to start a new blog that is all about baking. I have always loved baking but only used cake mixes from boxes until this year. I started off with a Red Velvet cake from scratch and went from there. I now have new baking tools and plan on baking this summer since I have off. Follow my new blog for details of my summer baking experiences. They may be good or they may be bad. Only time will show what I come up with. You may even leave me comments or new recipes you would like me to try out! Wish me luck!

Summer time!

Summer time...
Summer is finally here,
the birds are singing,
and the sun is shinning.
This is time for relaxation and reflection.
Swim in a pool
go for a run.
These are a few things one may do.
Go capture a moment,
maybe two.
Take a mental picture
use a camera.
Sun bathe by the pool.
Eat yourself a nice fresh strawberry poppy seed salad.
Read a book indoors
Engulf yourself into the story.
Become one
and use your imagination.
Whether you are finding love,
or being chased by a vampire
enjoy yourself.
Books can tell you many stories.
Perhaps you may want to write this summer.
Become an author,
tell your story.
People will listen.
Maybe you want to bake?
Bake a pie,
or a cookie.
Perhaps you cannot make desserts?
Well then bake lasagna,
or ratatouille.
Learn new recipes
and use your imagination.
Fill your mouth with magic.
What ever you may wish to do,
it's your time,
its Summertime.

Special friend

A friend that I became closer to this past year is moving to New Mexico. It's sad to see such a great person leave but I know she's the kind of person that I will keep in touch with. Friendship is both rewarding and heartbreaking at times. Its amazing to have a friend that you can talk to and share good times with. A good friend is someone who is always there for you no matter what.

These past few years I've seen great people leave my life. When I moved to Louisiana I left friends behind in NOVA and made new friends. One friend left New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina and it really sucked to see her leave... but I still stay in touch and I actually got to see her a few months ago. I also made an incredible friend in Baton Rouge. She practically lived with me for a whole semester and we spent every minute with each other. I even caught her when she fainted on me. It was heart breaking to see that a great friendship could change over silly things. I still deeply care for her. I am happy she is now married and living it up in New Orleans. I hope to stay in touch with her.
Its sad to see friendships die because of silly misunderstanding and sad to see friendships sizzle because we move. For a while I did not want to open up and make new friends because I was afraid that something would happen. But moving back to DC has changed that. I've made great friends here... along with seeing old friends... I love DC! The only thing is one of my dearest friends left to CA when I came!! Oh well now I have a place to visit!
I am very thankful to have such great friends in my life...I love each and everyone of you.
There is one person in my life right now that I probably would have not survived my two years of teaching. She kept me smiling and laughing on car rides home. Oddly enough our Husbands are great friends which makes the friendship even better! I love her!
I hope to keep the friendships I have forever no matter where we live or what misunderstandings we have.

I did not mention names but you guys know who you are!

So I've completed my first two years of teaching. It has gone extremely fast! I've enjoyed both years very much. Last year I taught fourth grade and this year I taught first grade. People always ask me " which one do you prefer?" I never know what to say... Both grades were fun to teach. I love both group of kids. I will never forget my first group of kids because they challenged me all the time. I had a great time connecting with my fourth graders. The exciting thing about teaching first grade is that everything is sooooo new to them. They are learning how to read and they are learning new concepts in math. It was great to see their smiling faces everyday because they wanted to learn new things. So if someone were to ask me which grade I liked better... I would say I loved both grades the same. Both were fun and unique in their own ways. I just loved being able to make a difference in our educational system. I am very thankful for each teacher I had growing up. Congrats to all the 2008 Teach for America corps members! We are closer to closing the achievement gap!!

I am married!

So in case you did not know this already, I am officially married! Well since March! Its been a while since I actually wrote a post. The wedding was amazing! I had a fun time partying with family and friends. My first dance with Hector was to the song " rock with you" by Michael Jackson. We had a lot of fun dancing to that. My father daughter dance was one of a kind. I almost didn't do it because of issues... But I am really happy I decided to show everyone the dance. Click on the following link if you would like to see it!

Hector and I went to Disney world for our Honeymoon and it was the best decision we made. We had a blast! We ate good food and got be kids. Here's a few pictures of our honeymoon....

I will be updating more frequently!
