Ugly Sweater Christmas Party

This past Friday we hosted an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party at our apartment. We had friends come over and enjoy some food and drinks while wearing very UGLY Sweaters! We had lots of fun talking, drinking, and opening some very funny white elephant gifts. It was a nice chance to catch up with friends and a great way to begin our winter vacation! We attempted to have this party last year but the weather was not nice to us! Lots of snow! The following are pictures from that night... ENJOY!!!!

Christmas Cards for our first Christmas!

This year Hector and I will be celebrating our first Christmas together since we've been married. We are really excited to celebrate our first Christmas together as a married couple. It's crazy to think that we've been together for 9 years and we are finally married! I've been looking around for ideas on Christmas cards and ran into really nice Christmas cards on Go to this website to check it our for yourself.
I looked around for a unique card to send out this year. I've never used stationary cards with our pictures and thought it would be a very fun idea! I looked around on multiple websites and shutterfly was one of my favorites! Not only do they have Christmas cards they have invitations and calendars for multiple holidays.

Hector and I have been having trouble deciding on which ones to buy and I think we've narrowed it down to two. One is called Cranberry Joy Christmas Card by Fresh Lemonade and the other one is called Holiday love sketch. Both are very unique and fun! I can't wait to use of of those to share with family and friends this holiday season! Go check them out and see for yourself! Happy Holidays!!!

Stanton Elementary school

A lot has happened since I last wrote. I've started a new job working in Washington DC. Its the most rewarding and yet mentally draining job I have. I am currently teaching kindergarten and first grade Math, social studies, and science. My partner in crime that teaches them reading is Megan Lucas! YAY! I don't think I would have survived the first quarter without her and Hector! Hector wakes up every morning to make my lunch and I carpool with Megan. I am teaching in a school that is ranked 72 out of 72 schools. Lets just say they have not been doing so well in the past. Its a very different atmosphere then last two year of my teaching career. These kids are very aggressive towards each other and are constantly yelling or arguing with each other. Mostly just the first graders.

You never know how your day is going to be. There are good moments and bad ones. Its a really hard job. I love the staff that I work with... which is why I keep going every day. If it weren't for them I would not make it at Stanton. I just want these kids to know that I want them to learn and succeed in life. I just need to figure out a way for them to stop the fighting and start believing in themselves.

Yesterday I finished playing a game called Heavy Rain and I really enjoyed it.... Crazy I know... I played a whole video game! Its a murder mystery kind of game... its a great game! So it really got me thinking about writing.. this whole summer I've had a mental block and I have not been able to write... I've been wanting to write a book for some time... I've even started a few books but I haven't finished them because I loose interest...Well yesterday I had an itch to start writing again... I didn't get get a chance because I went to go hang out with Hector and his friends and we went to go watch Inception.... It was a great movie.. There was action.. Drama.. Suspense... Mystery... everything that makes a movie awesome... So that got me thinking... I think I want to write a book that has all of those elements..As of right now I do not want to write a kids book.... hmmmm now all I need is to brain storm ideas and begin writing!

June 29 - July 5th

I am officially 25!
Quarter of a Hundred!
I spent my birthday with Family and friends.
It was a nice relaxing day.

Then that same week for the fourth of July for three nights. I went camping with Hector, Megan, Danny, Katie, and Brandon. It was our first time camping so we did not know what to expect. (Hector and me) We had a blast! We cooked food over fire, went on a hike by the falls, went swimming at the lake, and went tubing. It was a lot of fun! Here are some pictures of our great adventure!

Needless to say we had a great time and cannot wait to go camping again!

Sam's Bakery

I decided to start a new blog that is all about baking. I have always loved baking but only used cake mixes from boxes until this year. I started off with a Red Velvet cake from scratch and went from there. I now have new baking tools and plan on baking this summer since I have off. Follow my new blog for details of my summer baking experiences. They may be good or they may be bad. Only time will show what I come up with. You may even leave me comments or new recipes you would like me to try out! Wish me luck!

Summer time!

Summer time...
Summer is finally here,
the birds are singing,
and the sun is shinning.
This is time for relaxation and reflection.
Swim in a pool
go for a run.
These are a few things one may do.
Go capture a moment,
maybe two.
Take a mental picture
use a camera.
Sun bathe by the pool.
Eat yourself a nice fresh strawberry poppy seed salad.
Read a book indoors
Engulf yourself into the story.
Become one
and use your imagination.
Whether you are finding love,
or being chased by a vampire
enjoy yourself.
Books can tell you many stories.
Perhaps you may want to write this summer.
Become an author,
tell your story.
People will listen.
Maybe you want to bake?
Bake a pie,
or a cookie.
Perhaps you cannot make desserts?
Well then bake lasagna,
or ratatouille.
Learn new recipes
and use your imagination.
Fill your mouth with magic.
What ever you may wish to do,
it's your time,
its Summertime.

Special friend

A friend that I became closer to this past year is moving to New Mexico. It's sad to see such a great person leave but I know she's the kind of person that I will keep in touch with. Friendship is both rewarding and heartbreaking at times. Its amazing to have a friend that you can talk to and share good times with. A good friend is someone who is always there for you no matter what.

These past few years I've seen great people leave my life. When I moved to Louisiana I left friends behind in NOVA and made new friends. One friend left New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina and it really sucked to see her leave... but I still stay in touch and I actually got to see her a few months ago. I also made an incredible friend in Baton Rouge. She practically lived with me for a whole semester and we spent every minute with each other. I even caught her when she fainted on me. It was heart breaking to see that a great friendship could change over silly things. I still deeply care for her. I am happy she is now married and living it up in New Orleans. I hope to stay in touch with her.
Its sad to see friendships die because of silly misunderstanding and sad to see friendships sizzle because we move. For a while I did not want to open up and make new friends because I was afraid that something would happen. But moving back to DC has changed that. I've made great friends here... along with seeing old friends... I love DC! The only thing is one of my dearest friends left to CA when I came!! Oh well now I have a place to visit!
I am very thankful to have such great friends in my life...I love each and everyone of you.
There is one person in my life right now that I probably would have not survived my two years of teaching. She kept me smiling and laughing on car rides home. Oddly enough our Husbands are great friends which makes the friendship even better! I love her!
I hope to keep the friendships I have forever no matter where we live or what misunderstandings we have.

I did not mention names but you guys know who you are!
