Spider Activity

Last week we dedicated a few days on insects and spiders. Luckily our local nature center created camps that you could bring home to do with kids. One of the first days of activities was all about insects. I decided to take some of those ideas and elaborate on spiders. Mostly because Desmond has arachnophobia ( fear of spiders). My thought was that he could learn and really understand the importance of spiders in our ecosystem. It really helped Luca with his fear of bees, so why not!

So as part of the Nature centers activities, they provided card stock , white crayon, and water color paint. I first took the time to draw some webs on the card stock paper (white). I told them they would paint with water color and see the design. They really enjoyed this. Its super easy to do at home. All three kiddos loved it!

The camp then provided us with yarn to make our own spider web for the kids to jump around. Unfortunately it was not nearly enough, but fear not, this mama has a lot of supplies! I had lots of string. This was easy to make and can be done outside and inside. The boys keep asking to play spiders. I also did give them some information about webs and why spiders use them. Now they are always looking at spider webs because they know its a lot of work.
We also went on a walk around the neighborhood on a scavenger hunt. There are loads on the internet to print. This is the one we used.
The nature center also provided us with bugs and they loved deciding if it was an insect. Then with Luca and Ale we made insects with clay and then did an art craft. Desmond helped me find a parts of spider worksheet. We found ours on Teachers Pay Teachers. Overall we had a lot of fun! Hopefully you can use some of these ideas!  Have fun!
